Eye Wrinkles

The cosmetics industry has given them an innocent enough name, but fine lines or laugh lines represent the first sure signs of aging: wrinkles. Damage from the sun, exposure to the environment, stress, and time take their toll on our skin to create fine lines and wrinkles. The first places these generally appear are wrinkles around the eyes.

Eye Wrinkle Prevention

Women and men spend billions of dollars every year trying to prevent eye wrinkles. Unfortunately, most of the standard options have nothing to do with eye wrinkle prevention. Instead, they work to get rid of eye wrinkles or minimize eye wrinkles:

  • Plastic Surgery. This option is extraordinarily expensive, painful, carries the risk of any major surgery, and carries the risk of the doctor not doing a good job. Plastic surgery to eliminate eye wrinkles never looks natural and it does nothing to prevent future wrinkles from developing.
  • Botox. This option is very effective at getting rid of some wrinkles however the results are temporary. Not just that, it is expensive and involves injecting what is basically a poison into the wrinkles around your eyes. Botox and other similar products work to temporarily stop nerve cells from transmitting. They are not able to eliminate all types of eye wrinkles, and some studies suggest that long-term use is harmful.
  • Preventing Damage. Another option that has historically been available is stopping eye wrinkles from developing by avoiding those environments that are the most damaging to your skin. Exposure to the sun, tanning beds, and cigarette smoke create a significant amount of damage which accelerates the development of wrinkles. Limiting exposure to UV rays in tanning beds and from the sun and not smoking will go a long way in slowing the development of eye wrinkles.
  • Traditional Wrinkle Creams. These wrinkle creams have historically moisturized and nourished skin. While this leaves skin feeling good and can actually temporarily reduce eye wrinkles, it does nothing to get rid of eye wrinkles as they develop over time.

In the end, the tools that have been historically available to prevent eye wrinkles have been severely limited. We can avoid damage from the sun and cigarette smoke, but this only slows the development of eye wrinkles. Botox and plastic surgery are available, but they only get rid of the wrinkles that have developed, and they are an expensive and potentially dangerous alternative.

Eye Wrinkle Creams that Turn Back the Clock

Collagen is the key. Collagen is the most common type of protein found in the body and works as a link in connective tissue. For skin, the more collagen means more elasticity and fewer wrinkles. As we age, our skin produces less collagen and less collagen means wrinkles. Eye wrinkles are a direct result of our skin producing less collagen. In recent years a few wrinkle creams have begun to include ingredients such as Vitamin A, peptides, and matrixyl. These ingredients actually work to turn back the clock by stimulating an increase in collagen development in your skin that actually makes eye wrinkles disappear.

Unfortunately, many products make claims, but finding a product that really works can be a challenge. We have reviewed a host of products, and our top three picks that actually eliminate wrinkles include Complexion MD, Aquallure, and RevitaSkin. Check out our product reviews and learn for yourself.
